The newly elected National Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (NIEEE), Mr Alkali Tijjani, has said the institution must take the lead in driving Nigeria’s technological transformation amid rapid global advances in engineering and digital innovation.
Tijjani made the declaration in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri on Wednesday following his emergence as the national chairman of the professional body.
He noted that the engineering profession is witnessing unprecedented changes driven by digital technologies, renewable energy, automation and artificial intelligence, stressing that NIEEE must position itself at the forefront of the country’s technological advancement.
According to him, the institution’s responsibility goes beyond protecting the interests of its members.
“Our responsibility extends beyond advancing the interests of our members. We must continue to uphold the highest standards of professional ethics, encourage continuous learning, promote research and innovation, and provide practical solutions to the technological and infrastructural challenges confronting our nation,” he said.
Tijjani called for stronger collaboration among the institution, government agencies, academic institutions, industry stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and international professional organizations to boost NIEEE’s relevance and national impact.
He pledged to run an inclusive, transparent and accountable administration that would give every chapter and member a voice in shaping the future of the institution.
The new chairman identified institutional strengthening, membership development, digital transformation, professional capacity building, strategic partnerships, youth engagement and greater visibility for the NIEEE as the key priorities of his tenure.
He also urged chapter chairmen across the country to deepen professionalism, unity and innovation by organizing technical seminars, public lectures, industrial visits, mentorship programs and community outreach initiatives.
Tijjani further encouraged young engineers and student members to embrace excellence, innovation and lifelong learning, assuring them of greater opportunities for professional growth and leadership development.
Expressing confidence in the future of the institution’s future, he said that unity, professionalism, and a shared commitment to service would strengthen NIEEE’s position as a leading force for technological advancement and national development in Nigeria.
