NGX Market Cap Hits N159.9tr As Trading Volume Doubles

The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) extended its bullish run on Thursday, with market capitalisation rising by N1.18 trillion to N159.9 trillion from N158.71 trillion recorded in the previous session.

 

The News Chronicle reports that the NGX All Share Index closed the week at 246,315.38 points, gaining 1,523.59 points or 0.62%.

 

It was the fifth consecutive day of gains as traded shares increased from 662.35 million to 1.1 billion in 54,026 transactions on the floor of the exchange.

 

Beta Glass, UPDC REIT, Consolidated Hallmark Holdings and BUA Cement were among the gainers, each recording the maximum permissible gain of 10%, while Royal Exchange was up 9.89%.

 

Transcorp Power was the lagger, recording a loss of 9.97%, followed by Legend Internet and Omatek Ventures which were down 9.88 and 9.66 percent respectively.

 

The Industrial Index was the best performer, finishing the day at 10,224.02 points, followed by the Banking and Insurance Index.

 

The Consumer Goods and Oil and Gas sectors were the only two sectors that finished the day in the negative.

 

The market breadth was positive as 34 stocks gained against 23 that lost ground. Activity in the markets was upbeat as traders bought shares of large cap stocks, driving the market upwards.
