NFF Reschedules 2026 Elective Congress to September 27

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has postponed its 2026 elective congress by one day as the new date has been fixed for September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

The congress will be held to elect the members of the NFF executive committee who will lead the Nigerian football for the next four years.

The News Chronicle reports that the change followed the scheduling of Nigeria’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Madagascar for September 25.

NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau said the adjustment became necessary because several candidates expected to attend the Super Eagles fixture would have struggled to travel from the match to Lafia in time for the originally planned September 26 congress.

The new date was presented and approved during the federation’s virtual extraordinary general assembly.

The NFF said the decision was taken after consultations with the Confederation of African Football on the date of the Madagascar match.

With the election date firmly set for 27 September, focus will shift to the potential candidates for the various committees and the agenda Nigeria’s new football administrators would like to pursue in the next four years.
