NFF Denies Reports Linking Super Eagles Coach Eric Chelle to Wydad Casablanca

—

The Nigeria Football Federation has dismissed reports suggesting that Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is on the verge of taking up a managerial role with Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca.

Online rumor had spread that the North African club was considering replacing Amine Benhachem with the coach of the Nigerian national team.

The report claimed that Chelle was eager to lead the Moroccan team despite her current role as head coach of Nigeria’s senior national team.

Still among Morocco’s best football teams, Wydad Casablanca is now near the top of the local league standings, behind city rivals Raja Casablanca.

Among football fans wondering whether the coach might be considering leaving the Nigerian national team while still under contract, the rumours immediately sparked controversy.

The News Chronicle notes that the Nigeria Football Federation acted fast to quell the rumour, claiming that the allegations connecting Chelle to the Moroccan club were untrue.

Promise Efoghe, Super Eagles media officer, called the story garbage and advised fans and the general public to disregard it. He claims that the material spreading online is false and should not be considered seriously.

Chelle still has contract time with the Nigerian national team, and the federation has said nothing about any talks on a departure from the Super Eagles.

Chelle still has time remaining on his contract with the Nigerian national team, and the federation has given no indication that any discussions about a move away from the Super Eagles are underway.
