Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled a coordinated terrorist attack on a Forward Operating Base in Mandaragirau in the early hours of Saturday, killing several insurgents and recovering weapons.
Military sources said the terrorists launched the assault under the cover of darkness but were met with stiff resistance from the troops, who engaged them in a fierce gun battle. At least eight terrorists were neutralised during the exchange, while others were believed to have been wounded or killed, as blood trails were seen along their escape routes.
Following the encounter, troops recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from the fleeing insurgents, including seven AK-47 rifles and Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) bombs.
According to reports obtained by The News Chronicle no Nigerian military personnel were killed in the attack, one Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle was hit during the fighting.
The successful defence of the base is part of ongoing operations by security forces to curb terrorist activities across Borno State and maintain pressure on insurgent groups operating in the region.
