New Zealand Set To Ban Cellphones In Schools

—

New Zealand’s new Prime Minister, Christopher Luxon, has announced that cell phones won’t be allowed in classrooms anymore. He said the ban is to improve the country’s reading rates, which has been declining.
Until recently, New Zealand was known for its excellent education system, especially in reading and writing. However, some experts are concerned about a growing problem in schools.
Luxon promised to ban cell phones in schools during his first 100 days as Prime Minister. Similar bans were tried in the US, UK, and France with varying success. He believes that removing phones will help students concentrate better and reduce disruptions.
“We’re banning phones in all New Zealand schools because we want students to focus on learning, and teachers to focus on teaching,” Luxon stated.
A study in 2022 found that many 15-year-olds in New Zealand struggle with reading and writing. Experts feel something urgent needs to be done about this issue.
