The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Nasarawa State Field Office, has strengthened its partnership with the Nasarawa State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources to improve environmental management and promote sustainable practices across the state.
The collaboration was reinforced during a visit by officials of the NESREA Nasarawa State Field Office to the state Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources as part of efforts to deepen engagement with relevant stakeholders in the implementation and enforcement of environmental standards.
The NESREA team met with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Barrister Y.Y. Eda, who commended the agency for its efforts towards ensuring compliance with environmental laws and regulations in Nasarawa State.
Eda called for increased cooperation between the ministry and NESREA, particularly to address persistent environmental challenges, including improper waste management and illegal mining across the state.
He stressed the importance of stronger institutional coordination to tackle activities that threaten the environment and the well-being of communities.
Responding, the Nasarawa State Coordinator of NESREA, Mr. Bulus Stephen Aji, emphasised the need for a collective approach to environmental protection and effective waste management.
Aji noted that achieving a cleaner and healthier environment requires a bottom-up to top-down strategy that involves communities, relevant stakeholders, and government institutions.

According to him, environmental management cannot be achieved through the efforts of a single agency, making sustained cooperation among government institutions and local communities essential to achieving lasting results.
He further stressed the importance of public awareness and community participation in promoting responsible waste disposal and compliance with environmental regulations.
The engagement provided an opportunity for both institutions to identify areas of mutual interest and explore strategies for addressing environmental challenges across Nasarawa State.
At the end of the meeting, NESREA and the state Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources agreed to strengthen their partnership and intensify joint efforts to improve environmental management and promote sustainable environmental practices.
The collaboration is expected to enhance environmental compliance, improve waste management and support efforts to protect natural resources and communities across the state.
