In Benin City, Edo State, on Monday, the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) Board of Trustees for Oil Mining Leases (OMLs) received basic oil and gas exploration training for non-professionals from NNPC E&P Limited (NEPL), a subsidiary of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited.
Prior to the establishment of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) Board of Trustees for Oil Mining Leases (OMLs) 11, 20, 26, and 28/30 units in host communities, the training was completed.
Four OMLs—11, 20, 26, and 28/30 units—in various localities in the states of Delta, Abia, and Rivers were used to choose the participants. Managing Partner of DAP Energy Consult Victor Briggs stated during the training that the NEPL-organized program served as a prelude to the host communities’ board of trustees’ inauguration. According to Briggs, the purpose of the training was to provide the board members with a fundamental comprehension of the operations of the technical aspect of the oil sector.
“The training aims to expose them to the potential effects of trust.” And what the law requires of them in terms of administering the trust so that they can draw in more money from possible donor organizations in addition to the three percent.”
Briggs claims that the training served just to get the OMLs 11/20, 26 and 28/30 unit board of trustees ready for their upcoming responsibilities. Briggs pointed out that a survey and map of the entire nation had been completed.
He continued by saying that the mapping had made it easier for specialists in the oil sector to discover certain natural minerals across the nation for exploration.
He underlined the necessity of a more amicable and peaceful connection between the operating firms and the host communities for optimal productivity while discussing the factors that drive oil and gas profitability.
Afam Field, Rivers State board member Dr. Jackson Nwaeke praised NNPC Limited/NEPL for the training, adding that it will help the board of trustees understand their responsibilities.
Nwaeke stated: “The lectures have taught us a lot, and we now comprehend the PIA and its regulations. We will be guided and taught how to engage in the trust through this program. ”
He recommended that NEPL implement all of the activities outlined in the PIA pertaining to the host communities as soon as possible upon inauguration.
