NEMA Trains NYSC Corps Members, IT Students on Rescue Equipment

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Kaduna Operations Office, has trained NYSC corps members and IT students in the safe handling and use of search-and-rescue equipment during emergency operations.

The training, held on Tuesday, focused on the practical handling of rescue equipment, medical consumables and basic safety procedures.

NEMA Chief Rescue Officer and lead trainer, Mr Shafiu Garba, said the exercise was designed to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to safely handle emergency equipment and support responders during rescue operations.

Garba demonstrated the functions and application of various emergency equipment, including the Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU), and guided participants through the equipment available in the agency’s rescue van.

Participants also received practical instruction on the appropriate use of medical consumables during emergency situations.

Garba stressed the importance of observing basic safety precautions when handling rescue equipment and medical supplies.

He said the exercise provided participants with firsthand exposure to emergency response procedures, equipment handling and operational safety.

“The training formed part of our continuous capacity-building efforts to improve preparedness and strengthen emergency response,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Nuriyah Isah, an NYSC corps member attached to the Information Unit, described the exercise as “highly educative and insightful.”

Isah thanked NEMA for the opportunity to acquire practical knowledge in the use of rescue equipment and medical consumables.

She assured the agency that the participants were ready to support emergency response operations whenever required.
