The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has expressed deep sadness over the crash of a Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft near Igbokoda in Ondo State.
In a statement issued by the NEMA Press Unit on Tuesday, Mrs. Umar extended her heartfelt condolences to the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, the entire Nigerian Air Force family, and the families of those affected by the tragic incident.
Describing the crash as deeply painful, the Director General highlighted the invaluable sacrifices made by Nigerian Air Force personnel in the service and defence of the nation.
To reinforce ongoing efforts at the crash location, Mrs. Umar activated NEMA’s Director of Search and Rescue, Air Commodore Bature Usman, to lead a specialized technical team to the site. This specialized team will augment NEMA ground personnel who have been working alongside other emergency responders since the initial activation.
Mrs. Umar commended the prompt activation of search and rescue operations following the crash and reaffirmed NEMA’s unwavering commitment to providing full coordination and operational support throughout the recovery phase.
She offered prayers for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives, strength and comfort for their grieving families, and a speedy recovery for any injured persons.
