NEMA and Fire Service Lead Fire Safety Campaign in Kaduna and Zaria

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) North-West Zone, in collaboration with the Federal Fire Service (FFS) Kaduna Zone, organized a three-day fire safety awareness campaign in Zaria and Kaduna metropolis, on Wednesday.

Themed “Achieving Zero Fire Emergency Through Fire Prevention, Detection, Protection, and Control,” the program focused on educating the public about fire prevention and response measures.

The campaign began with visits to the Emir of Zazzau’s palace and Sabon Gari Market in Zaria.

Hajia Halima Sulaiman, representing the NEMA NWZ Coordinator, highlighted the devastating effects of fire outbreaks and stressed the importance of public awareness.

Jonah Ayuba, Commandant of the FFS Kaduna Zone, urged households and businesses to install fire extinguishers and adopt fire prevention strategies.

The Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Bamalli, commended the effort and requested fire safety equipment and training for palace staff.

The FFS pledged to train palace personnel and provide officers to assist with fire safety measures.

The campaign also targeted Katabu District and Mararaban Jos, where tanker drivers and other stakeholders were sensitized about fire safety.

In Kaduna metropolis, the teams held a rally from Kawo Motor Park to Mando Motor Park, emphasizing the need for preparedness, prevention, and swift responses to fire emergencies, particularly during the dry Harmattan season.

The program will conclude with lectures and grassroots engagements involving corps members and local leaders.
