Neighbor reportedly murders nurse and maid in Benue

On Sunday evening, a shocking incident unfolded in Benue State, where a retired chief nurse, Mrs. Esther Amali, and her housemaid, Mercy Mwuese Akuhe, were reportedly murdered in their home along Naka Road in Makurdi, the state capital.

According to eyewitnesses, the tragic event occurred at the residence of the late Mrs. Amali behind Deeper Life Church in the Federal Low-cost Estate on Naka Road.

Residents recounted that they were alerted to the distressing situation by the cries of Mrs. Amali, who had recently retired from the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Makurdi, where she served as the chief nurse.

Some residents claimed to have heard Mrs. Amali pleading with her assailant, whom she allegedly identified as a neighbor named Ibrahim, to spare her and her housemaid.

The witnesses shared that they rushed to the scene, only to find the victims in a pool of blood, with the attacker having fled.

It is reported that the assailant gained entry into the deceased’s house around 4:20 pm on that fateful Sunday.

Initial investigations suggest that the attacker first targeted the housemaid, who was alone performing domestic chores at the time.

Remarkably, despite the gruesome incident, a five-month-old baby belonging to the housemaid was unharmed.

Witnesses recounted the horrifying scene, describing the desperate pleas of Mrs. Amali as she shouted the name of her alleged killer and that of her housemaid.

In a disturbing twist to the tragedy, the housemaid had previously accused a friend of the suspected killer, Ibrahim, of being responsible for her pregnancy.

The accused friend, believed to be a cultist, was identified by the housemaid as the father of her child. Reportedly, Ibrahim had warned her numerous times to refrain from making such accusations.

As the community grapples with the shock of this heinous crime, authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the double murder, and residents are left mourning the loss of a retired chief nurse and her housemaid in this harrowing incident.
