The North East Development Commission, known as NEDC, has said it will start giving out food and other essential items to help people who are finding it hard to buy food because prices are going up.
The Chairman of the Commission, Maj Gen Paul Tarfa (rtd), shared this news in Abuja on Thursday.
He said they want to help ease the difficult times people are facing all over the country, especially in states like Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, and Bauchi.
They plan to give out 300,000 bags of rice, 200,000 cartons of spaghetti and macaroni, 100,000 cartons of sugar, 100,000 bags of mats, 100,000 branded blankets, 100,000 sets of men’s clothing (called shedda), 100,000 women’s wrappers, 100,000 sets of children’s clothing, and 100,000 cartons of vegetable oil.
Gen. Tarfa, along with the Managing Director of NEDC, Alhaji Mohammed Alkali, explained that the Commission had its first meeting after the new government took over.
They made important decisions about the more than 600 projects happening in the region.
They decided to finish all the road projects and the 500 houses meant for helping people who had to leave their homes because of fighting.
They also decided to get and use electric vehicles in the six states to make transportation cheaper and to create jobs for young people in the area.
