Actress Regina Daniels has alleged that her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, directed the arrest of her elder brother and elder sister, and that her younger sister may also be detained.
She made the claims in a series of posts shared on her Instagram Stories on Monday night.
Daniels stated that the arrests were being used as pressure to make her return to her husband and take part in what she described as a rehabilitation programme. She denied needing rehabilitation and rejected her husband’s alleged description of her as a drug user.
In her posts, she wrote that she had tried to remain quiet for her children’s sake but could no longer stay silent. She appealed for help and said the situation was affecting her mental well-being. She asked Senator Nwoko to “leave [her] family alone” and said she was prepared to speak publicly about matters she had previously kept private.
The senator has not responded to her statements, and there has been no comment from the police regarding the reported arrests.
The couple married in 2019, when Daniels was 19 and Nwoko was 59. Their marriage drew wide public attention due to their age difference and Nwoko’s polygamous household. In past years, Daniels often presented a positive image of the marriage on social media. Recent silence between the couple online had already led to speculation about problems in their relationship.
Separately, Rita Daniels, the actress’s mother, released a video criticising Senator Nwoko. She accused him of damaging the family’s reputation despite their past support for him.
She claimed that Regina Daniels contributed $50,000 to his election campaign and that she also gave financial and personal support during his campaign.
As of the time of this report, only Regina Daniels and her mother have made public statements. Senator Nwoko and law-enforcement authorities have not responded to the allegations.
