NDLEA Warns Nigerians Against Fake “Medicinal Cannabis,” Arrests Suspect in Lagos

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has warned Nigerians about dangerous drugs being sold as “medicinal cannabis.”

According to the agency, officers arrested a 28-year-old man, Afeez Salisu on November 1, 2025, at Akala Street in Mushin, Lagos.

He was allegedly packing and selling strong, illegal cannabis disguised as medical products in fancy pouches and cups.

The NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said that officers recovered 16.4 kilograms of different high-potency cannabis types, including Colorado, Arizona, Canadian Loud, and Ghana Loud.

The agency explained that these drugs are not real medicinal cannabis. Instead, they are powerful and dangerous substances that can cause serious mental and physical health problems.

They warned that the fake products can lead to addiction, paranoia, anxiety, psychosis, and long-term brain damage, especially among young people.

NDLEA boss, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.) said criminals are using the global conversations about medicinal cannabis to deceive Nigerians.

He reminded everyone that cannabis is still illegal in Nigeria, and no medical cannabis product has been approved in the country.

He urged young people not to fall for attractive packaging or false health claims.

The public is encouraged to report anyone selling such products to the nearest NDLEA office.
