Nigerian gospel singer and pastor Nathaniel Bassey has passed 1 billion views on his official YouTube channel, Nathaniel Bassey Main, making him the first African gospel artist to reach that figure.
The channel showed 1,014,544,577 views and 5.24 million subscribers on 1 and 2 November 2026. Pastor Nathaniel, who is 45, opened the channel on 4 March 2011.
The count passed one billion during the October 2026 edition of the Hallelujah Challenge, an online worship and prayer programme he started in 2017. Sessions run at midnight, and people in many countries join the live broadcasts. Millions more watched the recordings.
Data from Social Blade and ReachRanking shows the biggest recent draws. The Hallelujah Festival finale had more than 4.3 million views, and the opening session had over 4 million. Techpoint Africa’s Intelpoint reported that the channel peaked at 1.02 million concurrent viewers in 2025, the sixth highest for a livestream on YouTube that year.

The channel has grown quickly in recent years. A third-party audit in April 2026 put it at 4.5 million subscribers and 810.6 million views, which means it added about 200 million views in roughly seven months.

Nathaniel Bassey is known for many well-known gospel songs. His most-watched video is “Adonai,” with 60 million views. The Hallelujah Challenge Praise Medley has 58 million, and “See What the Lord Has Done” has 57 million. “Yahweh Sabaoth” (56 million), “Tobechukwu (Praise God)” with Mercy Chinwo Blessed (49 million), “Jesus Iye” (47 million) and “Ebenezer” with Victoria Orenze (40 million) complete the top seven. Together they hold about 367 million views, or roughly 36 per cent of the channel’s total. His channel describes his purpose in one line: “To GLORIFY JESUS, and To EDIFY PEOPLE.”
Some followers have asked him to earn money from the audience. However, Pastor Nathaniel has said the Hallelujah Challenge exists for worship, not revenue. In October 2025, he confirmed he would not monetise its official YouTube channel.
