NANS wants Soludo to Capture Students in Anambra budget, warns Against Fees’ Increment

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Anambra State has urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to immediately commence the process of capturing students in the state into its expenditure budget.

The Chairman Joint Campus Council (JCC), Anambra State Axis, Comr. Mathew Okpala appealed on Monday, in a press conference in Awka, following his emergence at the NANS election held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

Okpala, a Political Science student of Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu University, defeated Ifeanyi Chukwuemeka of UNIZIK in an election described as credible by pioneer Chairman of JCC, Comrade Patrick Afubera.

In his speech, Okpala warned against increments of school fees or any unnecessary fees in the state tertiary institutions, insisting that such actions were unacceptable on the campuses.

“We call on the Anambra State government to kick-start the process of getting the Anambra State students into their budget of expenditure, that is payment of busier and NANS Annual Caption so we can run the affairs of NANS in the state,” he pleaded.

Appreciating President Bola Tinubu for signing the student loans, which he said would guarantee that the students complete their studies without hitches, Okpala pleaded with him to also look into the students’ grants.

He further drew the President’s attention to the prevailing insecurity across campuses in the zone, stressing that the protection of the lives and properties of Nigerians remained his major responsibility.

Okpala also urged both the Red and Green Chambers of the Nigerian parliament to look into the power sector and ensure electricity tariffs remained affordable to Nigerians.

His words, “We in the students community want to convey our most gratitude to our father and President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the signing of the student loans, which will help in making sure that Nigerian students complete their studies without any hitches, we plead that the students grant should equally be looked into.

“We also want to thank the governor of Anambra state, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo for his developmental strides and process going on in every part of the state.

“We want to say a very big thank you to him for having Anambra people at heart. We in the student community will always be there for him and the state, and we promise to stand by him in his developmental plans.

“We also want to say a very big thank you to the management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka for providing a level playing ground for a successful election. Thank you Prof. Charles Esimone.”

The JCC boss while calling on institutions in the state without elected Students Union Government to quickly commence the process of conducting the exercise, warned that any intimidation of students from any management would be resisted by his leadership with accompanying actions.

“We also want to thank the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students’ Comr. Lucky Emenofe for making sure the student loans come to “reality”, thank you once again Mr. President of NANS.

“We appreciate the powerful Coordinator of Freedom Zone, NANS Zone-F Comrade Chidi Nzekwe, for standing with the truth and making sure the right thing is done, thank you, my coordinator,” he added.
