Nana Otedola, wife of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, has addressed long-running speculation about her nationality, stating clearly that she is Nigerian and not Ghanaian.
The clarification came in a video that circulated widely online, recorded during a conversation with her daughter, actress Temi Otedola, who is currently pregnant. In the clip, Nana explained that many people had assumed she was Ghanaian because of her name and appearance.
She said:
“To clear the room for everybody, I’m an Egba woman, and that’s the part I’ll gladly claim as a Nigerian. I am not a Ghanaian; my roots are in Abeokuta.”
Nana traced her heritage to Abeokuta, Ogun State, identifying herself as Egba. She also addressed why the misconception may have persisted for years, pointing to her upbringing in northern Nigeria.
According to her, she was born in Kaduna State and lived there for nearly two decades, a period she believes shaped public perception of her identity. Despite this, she maintained that her ethnic roots remain firmly in Egba land.
Nana is the mother of two prominent figures in Nigerian entertainment: DJ Cuppy and actress and fashion model Temi Otedola. She is married to Femi Otedola, one of Nigeria’s most recognized business figures.
The clarification follows separate public attention on the Otedola family, after social media users observed that Femi Otedola and Nana had allegedly stopped following each other on social platforms, prompting speculation about their marriage. Femi Otedola did not issue a direct statement on the matter but shared a video of himself on vacation in the Maldives shortly afterward.
