Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has lauded the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for deepening its operational reach in the state, saying the move is already strengthening peace, boosting investor confidence, and driving economic activities across the Niger Delta.
Eno made the remarks while receiving the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Sunday Aneke, during an operational visit, according to a statement issued in Abuja by the NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.
The governor highlighted the impact of the newly established 309 Composite Group in Eket, noting that its presence would help curb criminal activities, secure key national assets, and promote stability within the state and beyond. He stressed that security remains the backbone of economic growth, adding that the Air Force’s footprint would open doors for increased business and investment inflow.
“The operationalisation of this unit is a major boost to peace, stability, and economic activities within Akwa Ibom State and the wider Niger Delta region,” he said.
He also pledged continued partnership with the Air Force to maintain a safe environment for both residents and investors.
In his response, Aneke praised the state government for its role in facilitating the take-off of the unit, describing the 309 Composite Group as a critical forward base for intelligence gathering, surveillance, and swift response operations. He added that the unit would be instrumental in protecting vital economic infrastructure and reinforcing national security.
“The establishment of the 309 Composite Group is a strategic step towards protecting critical infrastructure that is central to Nigeria’s prosperity,” he said.
During the visit, the Air Chief also engaged with the Paramount Ruler of Eket, HRM Edidem Charles D. Abia, alongside other stakeholders, urging stronger collaboration between civilians and the military to enhance security outcomes through trust and intelligence sharing.
Earlier, the Air Officer Commanding Mobility Command, AVM Michael Onyebashi, stated that the unit had reached a high level of operational readiness and was fully committed to executing its duties with precision and professionalism, in line with the CAS’s directive.
The visit included facility inspections and strategic stakeholder engagements at the 309 Composite Group, reflecting the Air Force’s renewed push to bolster security and economic stability in the Niger Delta.
