Mpox Cases Decline in Nigeria as NCDC Issues New Update

Nigeria recorded a drop in Mpox cases during week 38 (16-22 September), with only three confirmed cases, compared to eight cases in the previous week, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).
This update was revealed in the NCDC’s latest situation report, published on Monday.
Mpox remains a health concern, with confirmed cases reported in 24 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), spanning 54 Local Government Areas this year.
The disease, known for its distinctive rash, also presents with symptoms like fever, headaches, swollen lymph nodes, and fatigue.
Since Mpox re-emerged in September 2017, Nigeria has recorded 4,997 suspected cases, of which 1,164 have been confirmed, with 17 deaths.
The NCDC continues to coordinate its response through a multi-sectoral Emergency Operation Centre (EOC), working with stakeholders in surveillance, case management, and public awareness.
The public is encouraged to report any suspected cases through the NCDC’s toll-free number to help curb the spread.
