Mourinho Forced to Deny Real Madrid Return Rumours Amid Election Drama

Fresh controversy has emerged ahead of Real Madrid’s presidential election after a campaign video linked to club president Florentino Perez appeared to suggest a sensational return for Jose Mourinho to the Spanish giants.

The News Chronicle reports that the video, released as part of Perez’s re-election campaign, featured imagery and messaging that implied Mourinho could be heading back to the Santiago Bernabeu. The clip quickly sparked widespread speculation, especially as the Portuguese tactician remains under contract with Benfica until 2027.

But sources show Mourinho quickly distanced himself from the charges, telling Benfica officials that he had never filmed any endorsement for the campaign and demanding the video be produced electronically. Reportedly, the growth helped to calm tensions at the Portuguese club, where worries had arisen over rumors that their manager might be quitting.

Describing Mourinho as one of football’s top coaches and a major force in bringing back the team’s competitiveness, Perez has openly applauded his influence at Real Madrid.

The dispute has heightened the mystery surrounding the June 7 presidential election, in which Perez challenges Enrique Riquelme in a fiercely contested race. Riquelme has made it evident that the former Real Madrid coach does not fit his own plans for the club, even as Perez keeps highlighting Mourinho’s qualifications.

As election day nears, attention is now on whether the dispute can impact one of the most significant club elections in recent years.
