The First Lady of Anambra State, Dr Nonye Soludo, has described motherhood as a divine responsibility that continues perpetually for one’s lifetime, which cannot be measured or rewarded materially.
According to her, it is not a one-off task that waits for a material reward.
Dr Soludo, stated this on Sunday in a message commemorating Mothering Sunday.
In Christendom, the celebration is held once annually, to remind mothers of their crucial role in society, especially as it concerns child upbringing and family management.
According to Dr Soludo, a mother is a rare blessing and a priceless gift that should never be taken for granted.
Mrs. Soludo, who is the founder of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, noted that motherhood is a sacred calling from God, centred on service and sacrifice.
She explained that motherhood goes beyond caring for the home, describing it as a responsibility driven by passion, compassion, and grace.
“For your sacrifices, extraordinary courage, resilience and enduring care, the world celebrates you today and always. No gift, treasure, or expression of love can ever truly equal the price of motherhood.
“Celebrate the mother in your life today and every other day. Remember that the greatest gifts you can offer her are love, presence, and prayers,” she said.
Soludo insisted that motherhood must be seen as a continuous responsibility, urging mothers to be deliberate about their responsibilities in society.
“It is called Mothering Sunday for a reason.
“This is quite deliberate because motherhood isn’t a one-off responsibility! Instead, it is a recurrent responsibility!
“The idea to ‘verb’ the word ‘mother’ is to remind mothers that their responsibility is a continuous one and not one to play once and disembark! It emphasizes the fact that giving birth to a child does not make one a mother. Rather, the deliberate attitude of nurturing that child even beyond maturity.
“The society must be deliberate about this,” she said.
