A good governance and accountability group, Transparency Watch, has congratulated Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari on his appointment as Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.
Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State and the senator representing Zamfara West in the National Assembly, was named Director General of the campaign council in a State House statement released last Saturday, placing him at the centre of the APC’s campaign machinery ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement by its Director of Public Affairs, Cliff Richards, the group described Yari’s appointment as well deserved, saying it reflects his hard work, dedication and commitment to the affairs of the APC.
Transparency Watch also said the appointment demonstrates the confidence President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has in the senator’s political experience and capacity.
The group said it was particularly pleased that Yari emerged despite what it described as efforts by mischief makers to frustrate his appointment.
“We are delighted to read of the appointment of Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, the senator representing Zamfara West in the National Assembly, as the Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.
“For us at TRANSPARENCY WATCH, who have been observing the activities of Yari both as governor and senator, the appointment does not come to us as a surprise. It is well deserved, considering the dedication, hard work and commitment that he has brought to bear on matters of governance and party politics.
“We congratulate Senator Yari on this. We also congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for recognising the good works of Senator Yari. The appointment is a clear expression of the implicit confidence that Mr President reposes in Senator Yari.” The statement added.
The group further described Yari as a politician with the experience, political exposure and capacity required to lead the APC’s campaign machinery into the 2027 elections.
“We are more particularly pleased with Yari’s appointment, considering the fact that mischief makers worked hard to stop him but failed in the end,” it said.
“As a man with the needed wealth of experience, political exposure and immense financial capacity, we dare say that Yari is the best man for the job. He will bring vitality and dedication to bear on the job.
“Both President Tinubu and the APC need this man of capacity to be able to weather the expected political storm that will come with next year’s elections.” The statement said.
Transparency Watch urged Yari’s team and supporters to rally behind him and work collectively to deliver on the campaign council’s mandate.
“Now that Senator Yari has been recognised for his sincerity of purpose in party affairs, we urge his team to rally round him so that together, they will deliver on their assignment,” the group maintained.
It further wished Yari success as he assumes the new responsibility and works to strengthen the APC’s electoral fortunes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
