President Muhammadu Buhari has continued to receive condemnation from opposition party of the choice of ministers as revealed in a ministerial list sent to the leadership of Nigerian senate.
Labour party, an opposition party, objected to the exclusion of youths in the ministerial list of the president.
The national secretary of the party, Mr. Kayode Ajulo, said “it was riddled with some spent forces who would find it a challenge to serve as federal ministers in a modern-day Nigeria.”
Speaking further, he said; “In my opinion, the President owes Nigerian youths an explanation. It is a mystery and a riddle why he would be appointing men who should be on retirement to the gruelling task that a ministerial appointment presents.
“There are many qualified and credible young persons who can deliver the needed goods to Nigerians.
“These young men and women made his Presidency possible. Why stick to ancient persons?
“It is tragic that even though the youths between 18 and 45 years make up as much as 78 per cent of the votes that saw President Buhari emerged as President, the average age in the announced list and even in the appointments he has made so far is 61 years.
“As it is, Buhari has created a new class struggle. It is not about the rich or the poor, but about the old and the young.”
He added that it was very painful that our “nation is again running around in circles in the name of ‘Change’ even though providence has granted us yet another opportunity to get it right.”
But Adams Oshiomhole, the governor of Edo state, has applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for the recent nomination of ministers, whom he described as “quality hands” while Yinka Odumakin, the spokesman of the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, expressed disappointment with the ministerial list and described some nominees as “poster boys of corruption”.
Malam Balarabe Musa, the former Kaduna state governor, also stated that there was nothing spectacular about those officials included in the list and wondered why it had taken the president months to come up with those nominees.
