Minister Kyari Commends Kaduna’s Growing Agricultural Investments

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, has expressed satisfaction with the level of agricultural investments and processing activities in Kaduna State.

Speaking on Wednesday after inspecting facilities at Olam Agri, Tomato Jos, and the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone, Mr. Kyari said the visit was part of the 47th National Council on Agriculture and Food Security.

He noted that the facilities show Nigeria’s growing capacity in crop production, processing, and quality control.

“It’s impressive what we’ve seen, from crop production to processing. We also saw a quality assurance office being built by Afreximbank to certify Nigerian products for both local and export markets,” the minister said.

Mr. Kyari added that more Nigerians, especially youths and women, are showing interest and investing in agriculture, contrary to claims that investors are avoiding the sector.

“We met a young lady managing a rice mill with women outgrowers  this shows strong participation and confidence in agriculture,” he said.

He explained that the federal government is working to reduce high input costs and restock the nation’s strategic reserves to increase food production and support farmers.

“President Tinubu is balancing the welfare of citizens and farmers. We are addressing high input prices and will soon restock reserves to support year-round production,” he added.

The minister also acknowledged concerns raised by Tomato Jos over low sales caused by smuggling and assured that the federal government is taking action.

“The Economic Management Team is already looking into the issue of smuggling and illegal imports to protect local producers,” he said.

Speaking on the use of liquid fertiliser, Mr. Kyari said the product needs strict policy control because of security concerns.

“Liquid fertiliser is security-sensitive, and the government will ensure policies that keep the public safe while supporting farmers,” he explained.

Mr. Kyari reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to working with partners and ensuring food security through sustainable agricultural development.
