Military to Arraign 16 Officers Over Alleged Plot to Overthrow Tinubu Govt

The Military has concluded investigations into disciplinary cases involving sixteen officers arrested over acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations, with those found to have cases to answer set to face trial before appropriate military judicial panels.

In a press release obtained by The News Chronicle on Monday Evening by the Defence Headquarters, the military disclosed that the investigation reports have been forwarded to the appropriate superior authority in line with extant regulations.

According to the statement, the comprehensive investigation conducted in accordance with established military procedures carefully examined the circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected officers.

The findings reportedly identified some of the officers as being involved in allegations of plotting to overthrow the government, actions described as inconsistent with the ethics, values and professional standards of the Armed Forces.

The AFN reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, loyalty and respect for constitutional authority, assuring the public of its resolve to maintain the highest standards within the military.

The statement was signed by the Director, Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, and dated January 26, 2026.
