Mikel Obi sets eye on Super Eagles job

Former Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi has shown his interest to work for the Super Eagles in the nearest future.

During his interview with CNN, the former Chelsea midfielder was jokingly asked about taking the role of the first team of the Super Eagles, Mikel immediately cold-shouldered the question, distancing himself from the role, his reason was that he hates been sacked.

“Not definitely, I will love to one day, but I don’t want to be a manager. I don’t want to be sacked. I hate getting sacked,” Mikel said jokingly.

“I don’t think I can handle that really well, but in some capacity, I would love to be involved again with the national team. I want to be somebody who will try to fix the problem from the top,” he continued.

Mikel prioritizes a mediator role between players and coaches over being a first-team manager.

“If it means to be a mediator between the players and the FA to make sure things are run properly, we have the right people managing what we should do together to succeed. For me, I think that is where we should start from.”

After his retirement, Mikel has been running a podcast with the Social Media name “Obi One Podcast”. He has featured numerous players and coaches since he began his Podcast.

After the U-23 FIFA World Cup, John Mikel was called up into the Nigeria senior team in 2005, he was capped 91 times, scoring 6 goals to his name.

Mikel was part of the team that helped Nigeria win its last Africa Cup of Nations under the guidance of the late Stephen Keshi.
