Midocean University UAE No Longer Recognized, Certificates Now Invalid – NUC

The National Universities Commission has withdrawn recognition of Midocean University, Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, with immediate effect, rendering all certificates and degrees from the institution invalid for official use in Nigeria.

In a public announcement signed by Director of Public Affairs, Rita N. Okonjo, NUC said it received notification from the Federal Ministry of Education, conveying a communication from the UAE Government on the withdrawal of the university’s recognition status.

“Consequently, the recognition previously accorded to Midocean University, Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, is hereby withdrawn,” the Commission stated.

NUC warned that certificates, diplomas, degrees and all other academic qualifications awarded by the institution shall no longer be recognized for employment, further studies, credential evaluation, professional registration, or any other official purpose within Nigeria.

The Commission advised prospective students, parents, employers, tertiary institutions, professional bodies and other stakeholders to exercise due diligence by verifying the recognition status of foreign institutions and their programmes before admission, employment or academic collaboration.

“All Ministries, Departments and Agencies, employers of labour, tertiary institutions, professional regulatory bodies, and members of the public are hereby requested to be guided accordingly,” the statement added.

NUC reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the integrity and credibility of higher education qualifications recognized in Nigeria and said it will continue to provide timely updates on the status of foreign institutions.

Anyone with enquiries was urged to contact NUC through its official communication channels.

The move comes amid NUC’s ongoing clampdown on unaccredited and “degree mill” foreign universities whose qualifications have flooded Nigeria’s job and education market in recent years.
