Michael Dell Passes Jeff Bezos, Now World’s Third-Richest Man

—

Michael Dell moved into third place on Forbes’ real-time billionaire list on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, passing Amazon founder Jeff Bezos for the first time.

Dell’s net worth climbed by $4.6 billion on Tuesday to reach $267.7 billion, according to Forbes. The gain came as shares of Dell Technologies closed at a record $533.88, up 1.9% on the day, after touching an intraday high of $538.47.

Bezos lost ground on the same day. His net worth fell by $1.4 billion to $265.2 billion as Amazon shares dropped 0.6%.

Dell now ranks behind only two people: Alphabet co-founder Larry Page, worth an estimated $277.9 billion, and Tesla chief executive Elon Musk, whose fortune stands at $942 billion.

Dell Technologies stock has risen 327% since the start of 2026, when shares traded near $128. Michael Dell holds a roughly 40% stake in the company and also has substantial holdings in DFO Management, his private investment firm.

His fortune has more than doubled in the past year. The climb has already taken him past Meta co-founder Mark Zuckerberg and Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison in recent months.

The rally follows Dell Technologies’ second-quarter earnings report, released the previous week. The company reported revenue of $47 billion, a 58% increase from the same period last year, and adjusted earnings per share of $7.04, more than three times the figure from a year earlier.

The company’s AI-optimized server business generated $16.4 billion in revenue for the quarter, double the prior-year figure, and logged a record $60.9 billion in new orders. Dell Technologies ended the quarter with a $95 billion backlog of AI servers.

Following those results, the company raised its full-year revenue guidance by $25 billion to $192 billion, with $74 billion of that expected from AI-optimized server sales. Full-year adjusted earnings guidance rose to $25.50 per share from an earlier forecast of $17.90.

Dell Technologies chief financial officer David Kennedy pointed to the company’s compounding strengths, saying its “advantages reinforce one another.”

Dell Technologies has also widened its AI product line beyond hardware. The company recently launched an on-premises AI agent product built on Nvidia software, aimed at giving enterprises an alternative to running AI workloads in the cloud as the cost of agentic AI rises for corporate buyers.

Michael Dell is the founder, chairman, and CEO of Dell Technologies, the computer hardware company he started in 1984 while still a student at the University of Texas at Austin. He built the business around a direct-to-consumer sales model for personal computers, which helped Dell grow into one of the world’s largest PC makers.
