According to Argentine journalist Paradizo, Messi’s continuous participation in the 2024 Copa America tournament is at risk due to an adductor muscle injury.

“As time passes, pessimism is growing based on what we are hearing and discovering regarding Leo Messi’s injury. I can tell you directly that Messi’s presence in the quarterfinals could be at risk.”

Messi played in both of Argentina’s games in the group stage of the tournament. Against Canada, he substituted in the 88th minute, and Alvarez cemented a full-time 2-0 victory for the defending champions. He also played full time during their 1-0 victory against Chile in their second game of Group A.

While stating that Leo is not ruled out, the journalist also revealed that suggestions affirmed his injury could worsen if forced to play, risking his ability to participate in the semifinals:

“He is not ruled out, but he is at risk. Some even believe that playing him could risk worsening his injury, making it more severe, when he might be available for the semifinals instead.”

He further said that the 35-year-old Argentine is disturbed and emotionally broken by his injury while resting at home:

“Internally, this situation is impacting him emotionally. He is upset and frustrated about his adductor issue. He has been released and is currently at home. He will rejoin the group tomorrow afternoon.

“I repeat, his presence is at risk, but I’m not ruling him out! He is not ruled out, and there are still several days to go. Anything can happen; he might recover, and he could even decide to play even if he’s not 100%.”

“Who would tell him no? So, let’s wait, but these are difficult days for him and the team.”
