Mercy Eke Seeks Help After Heritage Bank License Revoked, Reveals Over N100 Million at Risk

After the Central Bank of Nigeria revoked Heritage Bank’s operating license, reality star Mercy Eke has pleaded for help, revealing she has over N100 million in the bank.

Eke explained that she opened the account because Heritage Bank sponsored the fourth edition of Big Brother Naija, which she won. She also blamed her account manager for persuading her to invest her money in the bank despite knowing its financial troubles.

On Thursday, Eke posted on her X handle: “I really don’t know how to react about this… I have been hoping for the best… thinking there’s a way out… #HeritageBank.”

When a fan asked if she had an account with the bank, Eke confirmed, “I do… and have above 100m with them.” Another fan inquired why she opened the account in the first place, to which she responded, “That was the bank that sponsored BBN during my set. For them to pay us, we were advised to open an account with them. I stupidly funded the account. Don’t worry, I’m full of regrets right now.”

A concerned fan asked about her account manager’s response. Eke said, “She lured me into fixing my money, knowing fully well there were issues with the bank. I don’t have words for her, I blame myself.”

Eke has submitted a notice to the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) to retrieve her money. The NDIC has started the liquidation process of Heritage Bank, verifying and paying the bank’s depositors. However, the refunds will begin with those who have N5 million or less.
