Mercy Chinwo’s Manager Wanted: Court Orders Arrest Over $345,000 Fraud Allegation

—

A Federal High Court in Lagos has issued a warrant of arrest for Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, the manager of popular gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, over allegations of financial mismanagement and fraud.

Justice Alexander Owoeye granted the arrest order on Thursday following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The EFCC’s Case

The EFCC, represented by its counsel Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari, invoked provisions of the 1999 Constitution and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, to secure the warrant. Buhari argued that Onyedikachukwu had committed criminal offences and was evading arrest, necessitating the court’s intervention.

She further stated that if the manager remains unreachable, the EFCC would issue a public summons to declare him wanted.

The Allegations

According to an affidavit filed by EFCC investigator Mr. Michael Idoko, Mercy Chinwo had filed a petition accusing her manager of withholding royalty payments from her digital platforms and events. She alleged that Onyedikachukwu diverted $345,000 without remitting her share or providing proper disclosure.

Next Steps

Efforts by the EFCC to apprehend the manager have been unsuccessful so far. With the court’s warrant now in place, Onyedikachukwu is expected to appear in court to face charges. The case has been adjourned to January 24, 2025, for his arraignment.
