As June is globally recognized as Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, men have been urged to speak up, seek support, and prioritize their mental and emotional well-being, especially during difficult times.
The First Lady of Anambra State, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, issued a statement on Tuesday to mark the global observance.
The observance aims to address the stigma around emotional vulnerability and the unique barriers men face in seeking help, while drawing attention to silent struggles like depression, anxiety, and the higher male suicide rates
Dr Soludo believes men should make out time to rest, connect with others, seek support, and prioritize their mental well-being.
In the message, she urged men to care for their minds just as diligently as they care for their bodies.
Dr. Soludo, founder of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo initiative, emphasized that men are deeply valued and appreciated by their families and society.
She noted that women, in particular, cherish and support the important roles men play in their homes and communities.
Addressing men across all walks of life, she said their well-being matters greatly, especially as they continue striving, providing, leading, overcoming challenges, and navigating the complexities of life.
“As the world observes Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, it is important to draw attention to a conversation that is often overlooked yet profoundly significant.
“For generations, many men have been conditioned to carry their burdens in silence, suppress their emotions, and equate strength with enduring pain alone.
“However, the true strength also lies in speaking up, seeking support, and prioritizing emotional and mental well-being.
“As we work towards healthier families and communities, we must create environments where men feel safe to express themselves, ask for help when needed, and receive the care, attention, and understanding they deserve. Mental health is not a sign of weakness; it is an essential component of overall well-being.
“To every man striving, fighting, providing, leading, and navigating life’s challenges, your well-being truly matters. Take time to rest, build meaningful connections, seek support when necessary, and care for your mind just as you care for your body. You are valued, appreciated, and loved,” she added.
