Anambra State Government has confirmed the death of about 10 persons following a measles outbreak in Ifite-Ogwari Community in Ayamelum Council Area of the state.
The figure was confirmed on Tuesday by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala in a chat with our correspondent.
Ifite-Ogwari, a major food basket in Anambra State, is located in the hinterlands with little or no access to basic amenities.
Speaking on the development when he was contacted, the Anambra State Health Commissioner, Dr Okpala said the situation was picked due to the existing surveillance system established by the state health ministry.
He revealed that the state emergency operation center and World Health Organization, WHO office in the state, are mounting an appropriate response to the situation.
“Relevant health personnel are already on ground to address the situation,” he said.
