The May Day celebration set aside to celebrate freedom from tyrant rule and dictatorial government scheduled to take place on May 29th has been cancelled as a result of insurgency which is gradually becoming the other of the day in the country.
This year’s May Day Celebration also called Democracy Day Celebration which was meant to mark 14years of Democratic rule in Nigeria with the routine parade at the Eagle square, Abuja will be substituted with a mini-parade to be held at the Presidential Villa, Aso-Rock and attendance would be strictly by invitation according to an undisclosed source.
The cancellation according to a source at the Federal level was for some reasons in the interest of the Nation. The discretion to hold or cancel the celebration at the state level resides with the state governors subject to the security needs at their jurisdiction.
However, the Federal Government had already declared the day as a work free day.
