A match official by the name Charwal Wilfred and three others have suffered some degree of injuries in a game between Giant Brillars and Edel in the Southern Conference B4 last game of the season at the Akwa City Stadium yesterday.

According to a report by NNL, all match officers were dehumanized and had to escape for their lives at the Akwa City Stadium.

“Referee Charwal Wilfred from Delta state had his head broken and in a pool of blood, his assistants Asoluku Ihuoma from Imo State Referees Council and Uhuegbu Femi of Delta State Council had various degrees of injury.

The Nigeria National League is yet to know what happened to the fourth official Anaekwe Chinenye of Anambra State Council and Match Commissioner Oyekezie Godwin Ekene from Enugu State.”

NNL Head of Operations, Mr. Emmanuel Adesanya, described the ugly development as uncivilized and unacceptable.

In his words: “This is a Barbarous act and a demonstration of madness. How can players of a club do this to referees for no reason?

“We await the Match official’s report, we shall ensure the culprits are punished by the rule book of NNL”

The Nigerian National League regular season will come to an end on Wednesday when the Southern Conference B2 games will be finalized.

More so, seven clubs who will jostle for the Super 8 Championship have been confirmed.

Kogi United, Green Barrett FC, Police Machine, Gateway FC, FC Ebedei, Ibom Youths, and Go Round FC have all been confirmed relegated to the third tier of the Nigerian League.

Giant Brillars won the tie by 1-0 with an early strike against their neighbors.
