Matawalle: Nigeria Needs Prayers, Unity Ahead of 2027 Elections

Alhaji Bello Matawalle, Minister of State for Defence, has urged Muslims across Nigeria to use the Maulud celebration to pray for peace and stability ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Matawalle made the call in a statement issued in Gusau on Tuesday by the Publicity Secretary of the Matawalle Political Movement, Malam Yusuf Idris.

In his message to the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of the 1448AH/2026 Maulud celebration, the minister urged Muslims to dedicate the period to prayers and supplication for the restoration of peace in Zamfara and Nigeria at large.

He said the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) provided guidance for all aspects of human life and urged Muslims to uphold the Prophet’s virtues.

“The Prophet Muhammad’s teachings cover every aspect of human life and should be emulated by every Muslim,” he said.

Matawalle said Eid-el-Maulud provided an opportunity for Muslims to reflect on the Prophet’s teachings, particularly those centred on peace, unity and love for humanity.

He urged the faithful to demonstrate love, tolerance, compassion and peaceful coexistence in their communities.

The minister stressed that this year’s Maulud celebration came at a crucial period for Nigeria as preparations for another election cycle gather momentum.

This year’s Maulud is coming at a very critical time for our dear country, Nigeria, as we are preparing for another election cycle,” he said.

He called on Muslims to intensify prayers for divine guidance and peaceful elections, stressing the need for a political environment where citizens could participate without fear or threats.

Consequently, you will realise that at this critical time, we and our great nation need prayers the most for Allah to continue to guide us through the election season, where no one will be under any threat,” he said.
