Mass Burial in Yobe as 84 Die in Boko Haram Attack

At least 84 people have been confirmed dead after Boko Haram terrorists attacked Mafa community in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State, an eyewitness told The News Chronicle in a phone interview on Thursday.

The Yobe State Government on Wednesday held a mass burial for the victims in Babangida, the local government headquarters.

Police spokesman Dungus Abdulkarim confirmed the incident, explaining that about 150 Boko Haram fighters stormed the village on more than 50 motorcycles, armed with rifles and rocket-propelled grenades.

“The attackers set shops and houses on fire, forcing nearly all the villagers to flee to Babangida,” Abdulkarim said.

He added that residents have since returned to Mafa, and no further attacks have been reported.

The assault, which caused heavy casualties and destruction, is one of the deadliest in Yobe in recent years. The government’s swift mass burial underscores the scale of the tragedy and the urgent need to strengthen security in rural communities.
