Marriage Crashes Amid Violence and Cheating Claims

An Area Court in Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, on Friday brought the troubled union between Mujidat Adepoju and AbdulRasheed Ibrahim to an abrupt end, following allegations of brutality, neglect, and infidelity.

Presiding over the matter, Judge Idris Etsu ruled that the husband’s acceptance of the split left no reason to prolong the case.

He dissolved the Islamic marriage and directed the petitioner to complete a three-month iddah (waiting period) before entering any new union.

Earlier, Mujidat told the court she had reached her breaking point after enduring repeated assaults, constant threats of being thrown out, months-long abandonment, and serial unfaithfulness.

“My husband always beat me, threatens me to leave his house whenever he is angry and travel for months without coming back home.

He is so promiscuous that he has three children for three different women outside wedlock,” she said.

She explained that the marriage produced five children, three of whom are already married. She urged the court to allow the remaining two — aged 18 and eight — to stay with their father to prevent any need for him to visit her.

In his response, AbdulRasheed offered no resistance to the dissolution.

“She used to say that I like manipulating words; So, I am not saying anything, if she wants to go, she can go,” he said.
