Manchester City are ungrateful to speak ill of me – Cancelo

João Cancelo and Pep Guardiola

On loan Manchester City defender, João Cancelo has hit back at Manchester City who described him as ungrateful while actively playing for the club before his loan spells to Bayern Munich and Barcelona. In his interview with A Bola, the Portuguese insisted that it was City that was ungrateful after his loyal services to them.

“There were fake stories about me at City. I’ve never been a bad teammate”.

While defending all claims leveled against him, Cancelo recalled the perilous times among which was leaving his wife and daughter to play for the club just less than 24 hours after his home was robbed:

“I remember once I was robbed and assaulted at home and the next day I was playing at Emirates against Arsenal”.

“These are things you don’t forget, I left my wife and daughter alone at home, still scared, in shock, to play for the City”.

“At City, they were a bit ungrateful to talk about me like this, I’ve been an important player for them”.

Cancelo left City after his resplendent relationship with Guardiola dropped on his refusal to accept decreased playing times. Immediately, Guardiola decided that the 28-year-old should be on loan regardless of his enormous impact on the team.

Considered as one of the best right-backs , João Cancelo made 154 caps in the Sky Blues colours, while contributing 31 goals since joining the Cityzen in 2019. He won numerous trophies such as the UCL, Premier League, and others with the club.
