One Sadiq Idrissu, has been arrested by the Nigerian police in Adamawa state for allegedly shooting his mother to death who he accused of witchcraft.
The 30 years old Sadiq who hails from Boga community in Gombi Local Government Area, Adamawa state opened fire on his biological mother on the 5th of December, 2023.
The accused person admitted to have committed the crime. He said that he does not regret his action but instead, sympathized with his father for marrying and staying with her for all along.
“I killed my mother because she appeared to me as a witch. People have been accusing her of witchcraft for about 2 years ago. It is true because something kept frightening more especially in the night”, he revealed.
Sadiq, who took a chemical known as “suck and die” stated that his mother had been appearing to him in a dream as a witch and kept sending terrible fears and giving him sleepless night.
He disclosed that on that fateful day, he invaded their family house at midnight and could not find his mother in the room but found only his sister who was sleeping.
The suspect said his mum had gone out to perpetrate the act of witchcraft adding that he also entered his father’s room but couldn’t find her, and that while going out he sighted her and shot her 2 times which confirmed to him that she was a witch.
Confirming the incident, Spokesperson of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, stated that the suspect was arrested following a tip off. He said that the Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Babatola, has directed that the matter be transferred to CID for discreet investigation and prosecution.
