A 32-year-old man, identified as Lanre Ogungbe, was found dead in a hotel room at Authentic Hotel, Soyoye, Abeokuta, Ogun State on Thursday, with police suspecting possible consumption of alcohol and pesticide.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement released by its spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola.
According to the statement, Ogungbe’s body was discovered around 2 p.m. by hotel staff after he failed to come out of his room.
The hotel owner alerted the police after the hotel manager raised an alarm.
“The receptionist, after noticing that the customer had not been seen for a while, went to check on him and discovered his lifeless body on the bed,” Odutola revealed.
Police detectives responded swiftly to the scene. “Upon arrival, detectives found the deceased on the bed, with an empty bottle of ‘Lakoko’ and a bottle of ‘Sniper’ beside him, both suspected to have been consumed by him,” Odutola added. “There were no signs of violence on his body.”
Ogungbe’s remains were transported to the General Hospital in Ijaiye for a medical examination.
“The body has been deposited in the morgue, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death,” Odutola stated.
The police have opened a thorough investigation into the incident, seeking to clarify the circumstances surrounding Ogungbe’s death.
