Man, 36, Arraigned over Alleged Burglary, Property Damage

A 36-year-old man, Adeola Akanro, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, for allegedly breaking into a house with intent to steal and damaging property.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of burglary and damage of property.

He pleaded guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Opeyemi Lawal, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on June 28 at about 5:10 pm at Anuoluwa CDA Oke Arankanga, Bode-Olude Abeokuta.

Lawal said the defendant broke into the house of the complainant, Mr Samson Agboola,  through the ceiling with an intent to steal.

He added that the defendant damaged the ceiling valued at N20,000, belonging to the complainant.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant, unaware the complainant was at home, entered the building through the ceiling, and was sighted by Agboola, who immediately raised an alarm.

The prosecutor said the defendant was apprehended with the assistance of neighbours and handed over to the police.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 414, 451 of the Criminal Code Law of Ogun, 2026.

The Magistrate, Miss O.T Odubanjo adjourned the case until July 8 for hearing of fact, following the defendant’s plea of guilt.
