Makinde Unveils Lifeline Fund for LAUTECH Iseyin

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has announced plans to float a special intervention fund aimed at plugging infrastructure and academic gaps at the Iseyin Campus of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH).

The governor dropped the hint on Saturday during a stakeholders’ engagement held at the state Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, describing the move as a deliberate effort to give the young campus a solid footing.

According to him, the intervention will span key facilities, including hostels for students and lecturers, an IT hub, a healthcare centre, and buses to smoothen movement within and around the campus.

Makinde revealed that the state government has already sunk N15 billion into the College of Agriculture and Renewable Natural Resources at the Iseyin campus, underscoring its commitment to nurturing the institution.

However, he struck a note of caution, warning staff, students and members of the host community to steer clear of indiscipline and actions capable of worsening the early challenges of the budding campus.

The governor reiterated that his administration would not take its foot off the gas in supporting education across the state, but stressed that cooperation from stakeholders—especially lecturers and students—was non-negotiable.

He advised students to channel their demands through dialogue with the government rather than resorting to protests that could spiral into destruction of public property.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Razak Kalilu, applauded Makinde for resolving the university’s ownership logjam and birthing the College in Iseyin. He also praised the relocation of students of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Science from the Ogbomoso main campus to Iseyin.

Speaking for the students, Israel Olaobaju expressed gratitude to the governor for his recent visit to the campus, noting that it had sparked a wave of positive changes.
