On This Day In History (May 8th)

1541: On this day, Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto discovered the famous Mississippi River

1888: Matthew A. Cherry on this day invented the first ever tricycle which was later transformed to bicycles

1898: On this day, the very first games of the Italian Football League were played

1967: On this day, boxing legend Muhammad Ali was indicted for refusing induction into the United States Army

1996: On this day, Paris Saint-Germain of France (PSG) won their 36th European Winner’s Cup against Rapid Wien of Austria 1-0 in Brussels

2013: On this day, Sir Alex Ferguson announced his retirement as Manchester United’s Manager at the end of the 2013/2014 Barclays Premier League Season
