Major General Godwin Mutkut officially took over as the new Force Commander (FC) of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) during a handover ceremony at the MNJTF Headquarters in Farcha, N’Djamena, Chad, On Thursday, January 23, 2025.

He succeeded Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, who was recognized for his significant contributions to enhancing regional security and counterterrorism efforts in the Lake Chad Basin.

In his first address as Force Commander, Major General Mutkut thanked the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and the contributing member states for their trust in his leadership.

He pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessors and strengthen the MNJTF’s mission of fostering peace and stability in the region.

 “I am honored to take on this responsibility and committed to working closely with all stakeholders to consolidate our gains and tackle the evolving security challenges in the Lake Chad Basin,” he stated.

Outgoing Force Commander, Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, congratulated his successor and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the MNJTF to even greater accomplishments.

He highlighted Major General Mutkut’s extensive operational experience, including his roles as a former Commander of Sector 3 MNJTF, General Officer Commanding 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, and Force Commander of Operation HADARIN DAJI in Nigeria.

Major General Mutkut is a highly regarded senior officer in the Nigerian Army, known for his operational expertise, leadership, and dedication.

He previously led the 8 Division Nigerian Army, which played a critical role in combating terrorists and bandits in Northwestern Nigeria.

His new appointment reflects the commitment of MNJTF member states to address the complex security challenges in the Lake Chad Basin with capable and experienced leadership.
