Residents of the Custom Area in Mashamari Ward along Gamboru/Ngala Road in Maiduguri were thrown into panic on Saturday morning at about 10:10am after a suspected explosive object was discovered, triggering fears of a possible bomb attack.
The alarming discovery quickly spread through the community, prompting residents to alert the Nigeria Police Force for urgent intervention.
Operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit were immediately deployed to the scene, where they cordoned off the area and conducted a thorough inspection of the suspicious object.
After careful examination, the EOD team confirmed that the item was not an explosive device but a buried iron fist that had been mistaken for a bomb, thereby ruling out any security threat.
