In a recent statement, well-known Nigerian singer Teniola Apata, popularly referred to as Teni, revealed that she lost her father at the age of two, when Brig. Gen. Simeon Apata (retd.) was shot and killed in front of her.
Teni, a singer, revealed during an appearance as a guest on the audio visual podcast hosted by media personality Taymesan that she was only two years old when gunmen burst into her family’s Lagos house and killed her father in front of everyone.
The “Uyo Meyor” hitmaker Teni continued by stating that this had an impact on her development as a child and that she has since struggled with trust.
In the conversation, which the presenter Taymesan posted on Instagram on Sunday, Teni remarked
“Growing up with my father passing at such a young age, the trauma of losing my father at a young age affected me.
“You know, him being assassinated in the presence of all of us and all that stuff. I was 2 at the time.
“Him passing away robbed me of a father figure. It sort of made me have trust issues growing up. Because they [gunmen] came into our house purposely to kill him.”
