Liverpool confirm the return of Mohamed Salah from AFCON

The forward sustained the injury on Thursday during the first half of his nation’s group-stage fixture against Ghana.

In the vigorous encounter which ended 2-2, the Liverpool forward was replaced with Pyramid forward Fathi Mostafa following a suspected muscle injury.

It has also been affirmed by Egypt FA that Salah will miss two of Egypt’s games should they proceed to the knockout stage today.

The Egyptian FA said in a statement on Sunday: “After additional examinations were conducted on Mohamed Salah during the last hours, and after communication between the national team’s medical staff and his counterpart at Liverpool FC, it was decided that the player will return to England after the Cape Verde match tomorrow to complete his treatment, with the hope that he will join the national team in the semi-final of the AFCON if we qualify.”

The Pharaohs will need to triumph over resilient Cape Verde to book a spot in round of 16 or Zimbabwe holds the Blacks Stars of Ghana to a draw – with Egypt earning at least a draw against resilient Cape Verde in their tonight’s encounter.
