Lionel Messi Sends Emotional Farewell Message to Ángel Di María on his Retirement

Argentina captain Lionel Messi, in his emotional farewell message to his national teammate Ángel Di María, who was in tears yesterday before their World Cup qualifier against Chile at Estadio Mas Monumental, said:

“I hope you enjoy this evening a lot with your family and loved ones. We’ve said everything we needed to say. We shared so much, and who would have thought it would end this way? We’ll miss you a lot. See you soon.”

After the recent Copa América triumph this year, Ángel announced his retirement from international football after 16 years with the Argentine national team, during which he won two Copa Américas, the FIFA World Cup, and the CONMEBOL.

Ángel Di María, in response to the farewell from the national team captain and fans, said he’s now a fan and vowed to travel for all of Argentina’s Copa América tournaments:

“Now I’ll be just another fan, cheering the team on from up there. I’ll go to all the Copa Américas and World Cups. We will surely keep going this way because this team has a lot of guts.”
